Eight Seemingly Harmless Habits That Are Actually Bad for You

Hi, Kimberley here

Good Morning 😊

We’re up to day 4 of our light hearted look at habits and why some are good and why some are bad for you .. that way you can choose which ones to keep and also which ones it might not be a bad idea to change :)

Enjoy, and here’s to a transformative 2021

Just like there are bad habits that are actually good for you, there are things that people do habitually that they think are good when they’re really not. Maybe it seemed logical but then turned out not to be true once science looked at it.

1. Squeezing Your Pimples – Many people like to squeeze their pimples (or spots as some people call them), but this is not good for you. If you don’t do it right, you could end up with a nasty skin infection. Talk to your doctor about the right way to deal with skin issues, so you don’t hurt yourself more than you think you do.

2. Eating Unnaturally "Low-Fat" Food – Due to all the bad press that fat gets, a lot of people think they’re doing the right thing when they buy low-fat milk, low-fat cheese, low-fat dressing and so forth – but it’s not good for you. The main reason is that they usually replace the fat with sugar to make it palatable. Eating natural fat is much better for you than sugar, plus it satiates you longer.

3. Eating Six Small Meals a Day – This is a common diet idea that people think they need to follow. It’s common in all types of diet plans and is supposed to help control hunger by keeping your blood sugar steady. Sadly, studies are showing that this doesn’t really work because people who eat smaller meals report being hungrier more than those who eat fewer larger meals.

4. Drinking Bottled Water over Tap Water – Most bottled water is infected with plastic residue. If you live in a place with potable tap water, you should use it. You can get an in-home filtering system that will cut down on chemicals like bleach and fluoride.

5. You Drink Juice Every Day – One problem with juice, even if it’s freshly squeezed, is that all the fiber has been removed. When you drink juice without the fiber in it, you are just bombarding your body with a high dose of sugar that your body thinks is just sugar.

6. You Don’t Eat Carbs – Many people see friends giving up carbs and gluten, so they think this is for them. The truth is if you have no medical conditions that are helped with a low-carb or no-gluten diet, you could be harming your health. People without health conditions need carbs - including fruit, veggies, and grains.

7. You Do Juice and Smoothie "Fasts" – Lots of people today like to do "detoxes" to clean their bodies, and often this manifest with smoothies or juices. The bad thing is, most of the time these are high-fruit-based recipes that can really harm your blood sugar and your metabolism.

8. You Work Out for Hours Per Day – Exercise is good for you, but professional athletes know that daily training is not actually good for anything other than ensuring high performance on the day of the contest or event. Normal people should not train daily like that at that level, and should take breaks from working out.

If you already do some of these things, research them further so you’ll see for yourself that these are not really good for you to do regularly after all.

Nine Habits That Are Bad for Your Mental Health

Nine Habits That Are Bad for Your Mental Health

Hi, Kimberley here

Good Morning 😊

We’re up to day 3 of our light hearted look at habits and why some are good and why some are bad for you .. that way you can choose which ones to keep and also which ones it might not be a bad idea to change :)

Enjoy, and here’s to a transformative 2021

These nine habits can cause problems that eventually affect your mental health. Being aware of them can help you check yourself regularly to ensure that you’re not experiencing negative mental health issues based on your bad habits.

1. You Have Bad Posture – You might not think of something as physical as this to cause problems with mental health. However, if you tend to slouch and sit wrongly, your mood might go with it - especially if you tend to experience pain from your bad posture. And if you don’t now, you will as you age.

2. You’re Prone to Perfectionism – Some people think "perfectionism" is a good quality to have but the truth is, having perfectionist tendencies is not a good thing. It can mean that you’re procrastinating more or it may mean that you are fearful of your life, including both success and failure.

3. You Experience Guilt Easily – One of the worst emotions that you can allow yourself to have regularly is guilt. Most of the time, guilt is a useless emotion not based on real reasons to feel guilty. If you feel guilty regularly, you probably don’t feel loved or cared for, which can affect your mental health.

4. You Don’t Exercise Regularly – Being sedentary is one of the worst habits you can have. Some studies suggest it’s worse than smoking. That’s pretty bad. If you sit more than four hours a day, you’ll need to incorporate intentional exercise to avoid problems. When you don’t move much, you may end up depressed.

5. You Have a Negative Mindset – If you’ve allowed yourself to develop the habit of always thinking negatively about things, it’s time to turn that around. Negative thinking leads to anxiety and depression and feelings of powerlessness.

6. You Use Social Media Too Much – Reading social media posts is a proven bad habit for your health, especially your mental health. The main reason is that people tend to share and post more negativity than positivity.

7. You Don’t Have Downtime from Screen Time – If you transition from your work computer to your home computer to your TV, that’s way too much screen time. The light emitted from screens can interfere with your circadian rhythms, causing insomnia and daytime sleepiness.

8. You Don’t Get Enough Sleep – If you have a habit of staying up late and not sleeping enough, you need to try to ensure that you do sleep between 7 to 10 hours a night. Everyone needs different amounts but if you’re always tired, it will affect your mental health and make it harder for you to deal with issues.

9. You Don’t Stay Hydrated – Drinking enough water and liquids each day is an important component in ensuring good health. Many people walk around dehydrated and don’t realise it. If you are not counting your water and you feel tired, double check because it may be the water. When you feel tired, it can affect your mental health and make you foggy and unable to make good decisions.

These bad habits can lead to poor mental health due to the fact you’re not going to be operating at the top of your game. If you want to ensure your mental health remains as good as possible, try to reverse these bad habits.

Happiness Is A Habit - Day 1 - Eight "Bad" Habits That Are Actually Good for You

_Happiness is a Habit day 1.png

Hi Kimberley here just wishing you a Happy New 2021 :)

I thought we’d kick off the 2021 Year taking a light hearted look at habits and why some are good and why some are bad for you .. that way you can choose which ones to keep and also which ones it might not be a bad idea to change :)

Enjoy, and here’s to a transformative 2021

Believe it or not, some bad habits are really good for you. Sadly, our parents usually try to punish us out of or control us out of doing these things. Of course, everything in moderation, right? Let’s look at eight "bad" habits that are actually good for you that you can stop trying to end now.

1. Fidgeting - If you tend to wiggle a lot, your mom probably tried to stop it. Your partner might try too. However, fidgeting is really good for you because it burns more calories and keeps your blood moving. This is especially true if you have a job that requires a lot of sitting. Sitting is possibly worse for you than smoking, so anything that can undo that damage is a good thing.

2. Gum Chewing – Sugarless gum is really good for you. If you have the right dental work or your own teeth, chewing gum burns calories, helps you eat less, freshens your breath and also cuts down on cavities.

3. Video Games – While there may be some games that aren’t worth the added benefit, playing video games helps with developing fine motor skills, keeps the mind nimble, and by some reports can help give relief for chronic pain conditions by taking your mind off the problem.

4. Daydreaming – Finding a way to allow your mind to get bored enough to be able to daydream is very good for your mind as well as for your goals in life. You cannot create amazing goals for your life if you can't daydream.

5. Swearing – Everyone has a swear jar growing up, either for parents or the kids. Swearing is considered inappropriate, but studies show that people who swear appropriately tend to have less stress in their lives. Remember that swearing is completely different from a slur. A slur is something you say about a person, whilst a swearword is just a curse word - otherwise known as an expletive.

6. Messiness – If you are a naturally messy person, take heart; you’re likely also a very creative person. Messiness is sometimes a sign of creativity. If you want to be more creative, don’t purposely become messy but realize that sometimes being messy is required to be creative.

7. Sleeping in Late – They say that "the early bird gets the worm," but do they? Sleeping well and enough each night is important to your health and brain function. If you stayed up late and need to sleep in and it won’t cause you to get fired or miss something important – go for it.

8. Passing Wind – Everyone trumps and burps every single day. Passing gas is good for you because it’s a normal activity that is getting rid of built-up gas from your digestive tract to prevent bloating and pain.

Of course, you don’t want to do some of these things when other people are around, but it’s okay to accept some of these things as part of who you are and part of living life.

As long as you can choose the habits you create, you can build a life exactly as you want it to be.

The Best Way to live the life of your dreams is to start living the life of your dreams today .. in every little way you possibly can

Mike Dooley - Featured in The Secret

One of the most important things to address before you begin any mind, body or soul wellness transformation program is your mind set..

You may well be interested in something but there is a whole world of difference between being interested and being committed.

So how do you get prepared to be committed to that wellness programme ?? Or that weight loss challenge or to your spiritual growth ??

Please take some quiet time to take this pre - consultation with yourself, to really look at your past and your present wellness / weight / spiritual path etc

Ask yourself these empowering questions

  1. Is what I’m currently doing working for me ?? Or against me ?

  2. If I continue my present lifestyle where will I be in 1 year / 2 years / 5 years

  3. Am I living my life to my full potential ?

  4. Am I totally happy with my life right now ?

  5. If I don’t make the necessary changes in my life starting today where will my life end up ?

  6. Am I ready for these changes ? To prove to myself that I can take control of my life and my future ?

  7. Do I understand that during my lifestyle change journey there will be times when I feel frustrated, have growing pains etc .. and that i must use persistence to push through these barriers

  8. Do I feel that I am worthwhile making these changes for myself and my future or could that be part of the problem ??

Feel free to share your answers .. if there are questions that you don’t feel comfortable answering or you can’t or don’t take the time to answer them even if you want to make changes

Then maybe ask yourself WHY … WHY aren’t I taking this time to look at myself and my circumstances ?? When probably if someone else asked me to help them go through the questionnaire I’d be happy to do so ??

This could be for numerous reasons, maybe subconsciously, deep down inside your frightened to make the changes , or maybe you don’t think you’re worth the effort, whatever the reason these issues can be overcome .. our brains are quite elastic and they just need to be reprogrammed … after all the bad habit you have now is only learnt behaviour … whether you wanted to learn it or not somewhere along the line you did: whether consciously or subconsciously and the good news is because you learnt the behaviour you no longer want ,.. guess what ! .. you can unlearn it

No matter whether you want to lose weigh , get into an exercise regime, eat more healthily, look after your mental, emotional or spiritual health … you can do it !! and do you know what you deserve to … in fact I’d even go as far to say you owe it to yourself to make these changes and become the best version of you that you can be

That doesn’t mean I want you to start feeling guilty or bad about what you may or may not be doing after-all, I mentioned its only learnt behaviour and I’m pretty sure that for some of you you didn’t want or mean to learn some of the habits you may have picked up

So forget all that and start from today do 1 thing that your future self will thank you for

How To STOP Self Sabotage

Tips To Help You Stop Self Sabotage …

Did you eat (almost) the whole chocolate cake when your goal was to lose fifteen pounds?

On your last visit to the mall, did you buy three pairs of shoes and a jacket that you didn’t have the need for?

You know you are good at your work and expecting a promotion soon. But as the time for the advancement comes near, did you unintentionally start missing deadlines and showed up late for work?

We can relate to these and many other examples in our daily life that we act out as contrary to our self-interest. This is called self-sabotage and whether we do it consciously or subconsciously – it can be destructing and a significant obstacle in our way of achieving goals.

What causes self-sabotage?

There may be many reasons to indulge in self-sabotage. Usually our poor self-esteem prevents us from doing the things that are essential for our prosperity. For example, someone was verbally abused as a child. They were called ‘stupid’ and never recognized for the intelligence they possessed. Growing up the individual will believe their lack of intelligence and fail to treat themselves as a person capable of doing tasks of intellectual nature.

We humans also fear getting out of our comfort zone. We assure ourselves that we are fine the way we are.  Our internal voice keeps whispering ‘soothing’ comments in our ears that make us believe that one more piece of cake will not hurt or the extra TV time is well deserved after a tiring day at work.

However, excessive self-sabotage can create several negative effects in our life including impact our health, depression, financial issues, social anxiety, loss of job, and even personal conflictions.

How to overcome self-sabotage

To stop the act of self-sabotage, we must recognize when we are getting in our own way. Most of the time we are aware of the situation. For example

+, we procrastinate important tasks when we know they are immediately required. Or sometimes we sabotage our best interest out of impulse such as make purchases when they are not required or binge watch episodes of Friends when we have exams the next day.

Regardless of the reason, self-sabotage should be stopped and here are some tips to help you:

1.       Accept responsibility

Always remember that you are liable for the outcome from your choices and actions. Stop playing the victim card through your emotional or mental health and get in control of your life.

2.       Identify the self-destructing patterns

What do you do to stop yourself from achieving the important tasks? Do you press the snooze button when the alarm rings or do you obsess over unimportant things when you should be concentrating on the project in hand?

Once you identify the behaviors, try to stop your instincts and avoid the self-destructing patterns.

3.       Believe in positivity

Negative thoughts usually make way for self-sabotaging behavior. Don’t allow your inner saboteur to get the best of you and believe in the positive mantra. Hypnosis is also helpful in this matter where the positive thoughts are penetrated deep into your subconscious mind – enabling you to pursue your goals more effectively and successfully.

4.       Stay away from those who doubt your worth

Instead of being with people who put you down, enlist a group of friends/family that encourage you to do more.

Remember your self-worth

Last but not the least – always remember your self-worth. The higher you will find your self-worth to be, the more confident you will have with your work and surroundings – enabling you to achieve more than you imagined.

How Hypnosis can help

How to Stop Self Sabotage

Using hypnosis to update your unconscious mind to stop undermining your own best interests

Are you tired of feeling like things you try never quite work out?

Do you feel like you sometimes get in your own way when it comes to life fulfillment?

You know where you want to get to in life, at least where you think you want to go. But there's that other part of you that brings doubt and ultimately causes you to back out of following your goals because of fear.

This can happen in all areas of life, including:

  • Fitness

  • Relationships

  • Work

  • Dieting.

And fear is a key factor in these situations. Because self sabotage happens when we are afraid of a part of our goal. This causes unconscious conflict, which manifests itself as actions and feelings that work against that goal.

By the end, we aren't where we want to be, but at least we were right in our low estimations of ourselves.

It's a vicious cycle.

The dangers of self preservation

But of course, the vindication we feel when we fail to attain a goal, but expected it, is detrimental to our healthy progression in life.

And the joy of true success in life far outweighs that of self preservation.

The trick is to make the achievement of the goal feel more compelling than the fear of not succeeding. And this is where hypnosis comes in.

How hypnosis can help stop self sabotage

Self sabotage, as we've seen, is an unconscious attempt at self protection. It is usually caused by old unconscious patterns that no longer work for us, and need to be updated.

Hypnosis is the art of communicating with the unconscious mind, and in this case we thank it for its effort to protect you and then gently inform it that times have changed and it can move on.

The Stop Self Sabotage hypnosis session will help you move along your own path to fulfillment.

As you relax and listen repeatedly to your session, you'll notice that you:

  • Stop feeling anxious about achieving goals.

  • Stop worrying so much about what might go wrong

  • Can better plan how to achieve your goals

  • Are better able to move forward with these plans

  • Begin to progress further in life.

Social Anxiety Tips - 3 Ways To Lower Your Fear

Learning some quick tips and techniques can be the best way to start overcoming your social anxiety. The three main areas to focus on are your thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Attacking your social anxiety from these three areas at the same time will have a compounding effect on the results you get. Focus on the ones you have the most difficulty with now, and then move on to the others.

Your thoughts and how you manage them can have a substantial impact. If you have time, look into cognitive behavioral therapy for a complete set of tools on managing your thoughts. If you just want to try some quick techniques out right now, then keep reading this article. One way to lower your anxious thoughts is to accept them. It sound like a contradiction, but it isn't. Once you fully accept yourself, even down to your anxious thoughts, which are a "flaw," then you'll feel a lot less inferior to others. If you have thoughts or feelings of inadequacy or inferiority often, then it usually just comes down to accepting yourself and then working towards a better future at the same time.

Also try thinking a lot less. Most socially anxious people think way too much, which makes them stuck inside their head. If you can slow down your anxious thoughts by switching your focus to the people around you, then you should be able to think a lot less, which will make you less anxious.

If you have social anxiety, then it's normal to feel lonely, sad and depressed. Unfortunately, these are the exact types of emotions that will drive off potential friendships or relationships. People don't like to be around people who are sad and depressed all the time. Instead, you want to be fun and happy a good deal of the time. How do you do this? Try smiling. The simple act of smiling actually releases chemicals in your brain that start to make you feel more happy automatically If you don't believe me, then try it for yourself. How much different do you feel when you are slouched over and looking bored versus sitting up straight with a huge smile on your face?

The last tip I'll show you is the one which may make the most lasting changes to your level of social anxiety. Here it is: face your fears directly. It may sound like impractical advice if you are very socially anxious. In that case, you need to start with small fears and build your way up. Maybe try to make and hold eye contact outside with three people outside today and then move on to bigger fears.

How to have the life you deserve and have always wanted

How to have the life you deserve and have always wanted

Free Life coaching Session

The truth is that most of us don’t know what we want in our lives.  We usually drift through life stating all the things that we don’t want, such as I don’t want to do this job anymore, I don’t want to be overweight, I don’t want to be with a man who treats me unkindly, I don’t want to be alone.

The problem is that what we focus on is very often what we get and our minds are not able to distinguish between the positive and the negative so that very often we end up with the very things that we don’t want.

The most successful people in life are those that are very clear about what they want, are very clear about how to get there and follow through with action to move forward to achieving that.

Without a clear idea of what you want to be, do and have you are likely to be drifting.  This often means you have little control over your life and even fewer choices, which can lead to frustration, anxiety, fear and stress.

GOOD NEWS - This does not have to be so.

Anyone can take control of their future, get clear on what they want and improve the quality of their life forever.

Follow this step by step guide and see if it works for you:

Step 1 – Gather

Write down on a piece of paper everything you want to be, do and have.  Keep going until you have exhausted all your ideas.

Step 2 – Review

Go through your list and ask yourself what is this going to do for me or give to me?  Cross off the list anything you cannot give an answer to.  Make sure you are very clear about why you want this.

Step 3 – Evaluate

Now look at your remaining list of items and see how they fit in with the important things in your life.  For example, if your young family are very important to you then you may find that setting yourself a target of spending the next 5 years surfing the coasts of Australia is unrealistic.

Spend some time closely scruitinising each target and ask yourself some questions such as:

Will this improve my life, make me happier, healthier, richer? What benefits are there for me and the other important people in my life?

Step 4 – Take Action

Now take each of the items on your list and create a `To Do` list.  Ask yourself what you are willing to do to move closer to this item.  Break each target down into smaller steps so that you don’t get overwhelmed and work out what the `to do` list is for each step.  Keep breaking it down until you have a manageable list of actions you can do, one way to do this is to ask keep on asking yourself How will I do that?  The steps don’t need to be so easy that they are boring or don’t stretch you and also don’t make them too hard so that you would not achieve them.

Think about daily activities, weekly activities and monthly activities. The idea is that you can achieve the overall aim somewhere between 3-6 months.

Don’t forget to keep your list of `to do` handy so that you can cross them off your list as you achieve them.

Step 5 – Set specific dates for the action

Add some realistic time scales for doing/completing the action.  This step is really important as it will enable you to keep yourself on track for achieving the life you want.  It will help to motivate and encourage you to move forwards.

Give yourself a hearty slap on the back for completing this exercise.

Now spend some time thinking of how you will feel once you have achieved your aims.  What will you see and hear?  What will your friends and other people be saying to you?

Create some rewards for yourself as you achieve each target as these will also help to motivate and encourage you.

Remind yourself every so often of those areas in your life that you are improving so that you can know if you are moving closer to achieving them.

Remember:  the extent to which you keep your word with yourself is the extent to which your life works.

Give Yourself a Second Chance

Give Yourself a Second Chance

Second-Chance.jpg

Are you living the life you were meant to live? Or have outside influences changed the real you into someone who is unfulfilled, unhappy, stressed, overweight, depressed or just plain unhappy.

You can give yourself a second chance. Regardless of what’s happened in the past you can get back to what I like to call essence.

Who is the real you?

Close your eyes and imagine for a minute that there is a parallel universe and you have a parallel “you” who is exactly the same age as you are now. Only this “you” has had everything in their lives nurture them. Perfect parents, perfect schooling, perfect friends, perfect partner everything perfect, nothing standing in the way of letting you be the person you are entitled to be.

This you is standing in front of you under a spotlight, in your imagination step into that spotlight and into the real you. Have a good look around, notice how it feels and what the difference is. Really live that real new you and then decide whether you want to stay in that frame. Live your life to the full, we can choose how outside influences affect us.

Its not just your physiology but your mind set, make up your mind to be the person who looks back on their life knowing that you’ve lived the life you were born to.

A good hypnotherapist will take you through this process and lead you further to understand what your life can be like. If only you give yourself a second chance
