There can be many reasons for a disrupted sleep pattern.

Sleep apnea, for instance, prompts micro-awakenings as the person has trouble breathing in their sleep and repeatedly gasps for air. If this is a problem for you, it's important to see a medical professional.

But if, like many, the reason for your poor sleep isn't as clear, there are a few things you can look at.

Lifestyle, environmental, and psychological factors all affect our quality of sleep. Specific causes include:

  • Too much food or alcohol near bedtime

  • A bedroom that is too warm, too noisy or too light

  • Conditioning yourself to be mentally active in the bedroom by using phones, a TV or doing work

  • Ongoing stress and anxiety.

Sleep is a natural process of drifting from deep stages to lighter ones where you may even become aware of the room. These changes happen at 90-minute intervals and it's important to be relaxed so that this natural process can occur.

How to recondition your mind to sleep better with hypnotherapy so that you;

And in 2008, the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology published a study showing that pride is actually a universally recognized emotion(1). Every study participant, from university students in North America, to members of an isolated, preliterate West African tribe, correctly identified images of someone looking proud.

From a young age, many children are given encouragement when learning new skills. And when they finally get it right, they are praised.

The truth is, stress isn't all about the big stuff. Stress is a spectrum, not an on/off switch. At any time, a range of different pressures may be affecting your life, and all to a different degree.

If they are at the lower end of the spectrum, but there are a lot of them, the cumulative effect can be as great as if a single one of the 'big beasts' is rampaging about in your life.

This is why everyday stress levels can build up without you noticing. It's just a little bit here, a little bit there - but it all wears away at you.

Hypnotherapy can stop worry and apprehension wrecking your life

Do you often feel fearful and anxious even when you know there's nothing to worry about?

Are your thoughts and emotions controlling you, rather than the other way round?

Feeling worried and frightened is extremely unpleasant

Your heart pounds. Your chest feels too tight. Your guts seem to be tied in knots. You break out in a sweat.

You desperately want to run away - but where to? You might feel sick. You can't think straight. You're sure something awful is going to happen.

What is fear for?

This wouldn't be so bad if you really were about to be run over by a bus or eaten by a rampaging lion. Because then you wouldn't be thinking at all.

You'd be jumping aside, or swarming up a tree as fast as you could go. And you'd be so happy to come out alive that you'd hardly notice the sweat, or the knots. This, after all, is what fear is for. It's to galvanize you into instant, immediate, instinctive, life saving action.

If you are really in danger, fear and anxiety are completely appropriate - and useful! - responses.

Why you can feel afraid when you're perfectly safe

But the chances are that you are having these feelings and thoughts somewhere perfectly safe and secure. You are not about to die. You are not about to be attacked. You are likely surrounded by ordinary folk going about their ordinary lives, just like you.

Sure, some of them may be awkward characters, or may even actively dislike you, but dealing with difficult people is an ordinary part of ordinary life.

So how come you always feel so excessively worried and fearful about stuff?

When fear becomes a habit, growing out of control

Well, you may be surprised to learn this, but, like all human responses, feeling afraid and uneasy can become a habit. There may have been times in the past when you've had genuine reasons to feel frightened about what might happen to you, but somehow this feeling has become generalised to lots of situations where it doesn't belong.

And because fear feeds on itself, growing ever bigger by focusing on how bad things could get, it can end up taking over your life, imprisoning you in an iron cage of worry.

And any gardener will tell you that a garden left to itself will look lovely for a while and will then gradually deteriorate into a tangle of weeds and scrub. A place you wouldn't want to spend any time.

Stop Feeling You're Bad

Develop a warmer, fairer, more objective view of yourself

Do you sometimes think that, underneath it all, you're a bad person?

Do you believe that, if other people were to see the core of who you are, they would dislike or even hate you for what you've done, thought, or felt?

It's easy to let these feelings affect your self-worth.

Have you ever wondered why you feel this way, or when it started? You may not be able to pinpoint when your sense of self-worth plummeted. It may seem like you've always felt this way. But these feelings are not an intrinsic part of who you are, and they can be overcome.

Low self-worth is almost always learned

If you feel that you’re a bad person, it’s likely because you have been taught to feel that way, though even people who grew up without pressure to conform or excel can develop this kind of thinking if they grew up around someone who was self-critical. It’s an easy habit to pick up!

At some point in your life, you may have been treated in such a way that you came to believe that the value of your life depends on whether you meet certain standards, or look or behave a certain way.

If you grew up with sky-high expectations or without unconditional love, it’s no surprise you feel this way. You’ve essentially been taught that unless you accomplish certain things — high test scores, a prestigious career, perfect behaviour — you are not worthy of love and praise. As the chronic feelings of failure mount, they may translate to a sense that, deep down, you’re simply bad.

But here’s the thing.

No one can live up to unrealistic expectations

The truth is, even the most accomplished people have flaws. The most honourable people you can think of, every role model, every tremendously accomplished individual — they’re all imperfect. Everyone has moments in their lives when they’ve failed to meet their own standards, or society’s expectations of model behaviour.

Even people who seemingly have everything experience the same negative emotions that you do at times. Everyone feels jealousy. Everyone experiences regret. Everyone has felt twinges of doubt. It’s part of being human. It’s baked into the experience.

But when you’ve been treated like you don’t have value and are not worth caring about, these perceived “failures” are magnified. You start to believe you deserve to be treated this way. And the longer you believe it, the more it comes to “make sense.” You focus on your flaws, taking these as irrefutable evidence of your intrinsic “badness.” Reality takes a back seat as you become more and more convinced.
